As a small nonprofit art gallery, volunteers are invaluable to our ability to champion Bay Area artists and create a welcoming space for visitors.
Regular volunteers provide weekly or biweekly support in three- or four-hour shifts. Tasks include a variety of responsibilities related to events, front desk management, and publicity. On-call opportunities exist for bimonthly or quarterly needs associated with exhibition installation, facility upkeep, and special events.

Volunteer Duty Descriptions
Front-desk management involves answering phone calls; greeting guests and answering general questions about the gallery; entering records in the database; proofreading copy; preparing correspondence; and aiding in the preparation of bulk mailings.
Event assistance involves setting up and breaking down arrangements for artist talks, workshops, participatory artist projects, and community gatherings. Duties may also include greeting participants, preparing and/or serving food, assisting with art projects, and cleaning up.
Publicity involves helping staff plan, implement, and monitor outreach and marketing. Duties include working with BAC staff to create, schedule, and oversee social media content on Facebook and Instagram; posting events on local publication event calendars; drafting e-newsletters; and assisting with press releases. Interested volunteers should be comfortable writing copy and emails, and should have some photo editing and graphic design experience.
Facility upkeep involves aiding in the repair of the building, grounds, and equipment. This work is a perfect fit for those who love handiwork and gardening. Duties include: landscape and grounds care, including quarterly clean-up days; checking and organizing hardware inventory; assisting with light building repairs; performing general cleaning duties, such as sweeping, mopping, and recycling. Volunteers interested in facility services should be able to lift 50 pounds and climb a ladder.
Installation involves helping out preparators during installation and de-installation. Installation is hands-on work that produces satisfyingly tangible results. Duties include working with curator and staff to prepare and disassemble exhibitions; prepping and painting gallery before installation; organizing contracts between artist and gallery; packing and storing artwork of various mediums; and preparing labels for display. Volunteers interested in installation should be comfortable using hand tools and climbing a ladder.
